Meet the Maker

I’m Sonya, a colourful abstract artist who has branched out with my designs to create feel-good cushions, scarves, bags and jewellery. I aim to boost confidence and frame of mind by bringing colour to people’s lives with my contemporary floral and botanical inspired art and fun statement pieces, celebrating the individuality of my wonderful and unique collectors.

Get to know me

Is art life changing? I say YES. Not in a huge sweeping way , but a pop of colour in your day can be a powerful thing. I quote

“Colour is a power which directly influences the soul.”  Wassily Kandinsky

Owning something that is full of life and colour, makes you laugh, feel good  and can change how you feel that day. And that mood can be infectious when you interact with others. Spreading joy though art and colour.

My journey to creating Sonya Elizabeth Art

After studying and then working as a professional photographer, I fell into non-art related office roles and then raising a family however one rainy summer's day in 2018, whilst amusing 3 small children I picked up a paintbrush again. Once I started painting, I couldn't stop and interest in my work lead me to launch www.sonyaelizabeth.co.uk in October 2018.

My Inspiration

Each one of my artworks is inspired by the colours, tones and beauty I see around me as well as a life observing different styles of art. Art Nouveau Flowers, large scale abstract flowers and even doodle art flowers. Be it in parks, open spaces or the gardens around my home in North London and further beyond. I take the shapes and colours home with me and once in my London kitchen/studio they flow out on to canvas and paper. The kitchen is full of tea, paint, flowers, food and joy.

How I work

My impatient nature (and having children) makes acrylic paint the perfect choice for me. The paint dries quickly enough that I am able to work freely to layer the paint and create pattern, colour and different effects. I also experiment with different media particularly for mark making.
Where possible, I try to upcycle unloved canvases making my work more sustainable.

Commissions

I sometimes get asked if I take commissions, and the answer is yes! If you would like to discuss an idea with me, I’d love to hear from you.
